Let's Yarn About Sleep!

Proposed Centre for Sleep Health Equity - Planning Day

The Let's Yarn About Sleep team was honoured to bring together more than 80 collaborators and stakeholders from across Australia to the University of the Sunshine Coast for a planning event to help guide our application for a Centre for Sleep Health Equity. This Centre aims to build upon Let’s Yarn About Sleep as a flagship and guiding program, extending its process, framework, and model to other Australian populations facing sleep health inequities.

The gathering brought together academics, health service providers, community researchers, partners, First Nations community representatives, and Elders, creating a valuable opportunity to share knowledge, perspectives, and aspirations for the future of sleep health equity.

A heartfelt thank you to everyone who joined us and contributed so generously to the discussions. Your expertise, insights, and commitment helped shape important conversations about the non-negotiable values, partnerships, and goals that will guide the proposed centre.

We extend our deepest gratitude and respect to Darren Smith for starting the day off by playing the Yidaki, Uncle Wayne Williams for sharing his LYAS story, and to Aunty Joan Marshall, who travelled from Kalkadoon Country to join us in person and made the event particularly special.

The strength of the conversations, relationships, and shared vision throughout the day reaffirmed the importance of working together to create meaningful and lasting change.

We look forward to the next stage of this journey and to continuing these important conversations with our partners and communities.
